Description
The SECO 17016449 is a single-end cobalt square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN (titanium carbonitride), it delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS tooling. The cutter measures 1 inch in diameter with a 1-7/8 inch length of cut, a 3/4 inch shank diameter, and a 4-1/8 inch overall length. Four spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute geometry is standard. This is a centercutting design, allowing plunge entry directly into the workpiece. It belongs to the SECO SPC408 series and is sized for use in standard vertical milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills.
This end mill is suited for short-reach roughing and finishing passes in a wide range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys. The TiCN coating extends tool life when cutting ferrous materials and moderately abrasive alloys. The 3/4 inch shank fits standard R8, CAT, BT, and side-lock holders commonly found in production and job-shop environments. The short length-of-cut classification keeps deflection low during aggressive side milling passes.
Key Features
- M42 cobalt steel construction for elevated red hardness and wear resistance
- TiCN coating reduces friction and extends tool life on ferrous and high-temp alloy cuts
- 4 spiral flutes at 30-degree helix angle for efficient chip evacuation
- Centercutting geometry allows direct plunge milling without pre-drilling
- Right-hand cut, right-hand flute configuration for standard spindle rotation
- Short flute length classification minimizes deflection in tight setups
Compatibility
Designed for use in standard toolholders accepting a 3/4 inch shank diameter. Suitable for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and non-ferrous metals, and high-temperature alloys per SECO SPC408 series application guidance.
Installation Notes
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Confirm the toolholder bore and collet size match the 3/4 inch shank before seating the tool. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or locked-out state before changing tooling. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation; maximum TIR for this tool is 0.001 inches. Do not exceed the rated length of cut when programming axial depth of cut.
