Description
Keep chlorine production steady without replacing your whole system. The Afras 40K Replacement Salt Chlorinator is a 40,000-gallon–class upgrade designed to restore reliable salt-to-chlorine generation for residential pools. Sized for typical family pools, it produces a consistent sanitizer level that feels gentler on skin and swimwear than tablets—while helping reduce odor and day-to-day dosing. A clear housing makes visual checks easy, and reverse-polarity self-cleaning (model dependent) helps minimize scaling for longer life.
Installation is straightforward in the return line after the filter/heater, using standard unions and simple electrical connections (verify your controller/power center compatibility). Set your output for season and bather load, use Boost/Super-Chlorinate after parties, and enjoy cleaner, fresher-smelling water with less hands-on effort.
Key highlights
-
40K-gallon class salt chlorine production for most residential pools
-
On-demand chlorination for steadier sanitizer and fewer chemistry swings
-
Gentler feel vs. tablet/liquid dosing; helps cut odor and irritation
-
Clear cell housing for quick visual inspection; self-cleaning polarity (if equipped)
-
Simple retrofit on the return line with common unions and straightforward wiring
Install & compatibility notes
-
Confirm controller/power center compatibility (cell type, connector, cord length, and voltage) before ordering.
-
Plumb the cell after the filter and heater, with correct flow direction; add a check valve if using an inline tablet feeder downstream.
-
Maintain the manufacturer’s salt range and balanced water. Inspect/rinse the cell periodically to limit scale.
-
Use a GFCI-protected circuit and follow bonding/grounding per local code.
An Afras aftermarket salt cell replaces your old Pentair® 520555 salt cell for less and is a direct plumbing and electrical replacement for the Pentair® IntelliChlor® IC40®
Afras replacement cell comes with an onboard digital controller that allows you to adjust chlorine output with a tap of a button, and displays the actual salinity in PPM of the pool.
